CBT Treatment for
Children and Adolescence

Just like adults, children can be profoundly affected by anxiety and depression. However, their symptoms often manifest differently; a depressed or anxious child may exhibit persistent irritability, struggle with low self-esteem, or contend with excessive worry and severe shyness.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective modality for treating childhood depression and anxiety. It is also exceptionally well-suited for addressing other specialized conditions that frequently debut during childhood, including:

  • Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID): Helping children address fear-based food avoidance, sensory aversions, or anxieties surrounding the consequences of eating (such as choking or vomiting).

  • Tic Disorders and Tourette Syndrome: Utilizing structured, behavioral frameworks to help children manage physical and vocal tics.

  • Specific Phobias: Targeting distinct, severe childhood fears, such as the fear of vomiting (emetophobia) or profound social shyness.

My therapeutic approach focuses on creating a warm, safe, and collaborative environment where children can freely express themselves while learning highly effective coping strategies. Because a secure parent-child bond is an essential cornerstone of childhood mental health, I actively involve parents throughout the course of treatment.

I utilize CBT principles for parents and seamlessly integrate the SPACE modality (Supporting Parents for Anxious Childhood Emotions). This evidence-based, parent-focused framework is uniquely powerful because it allows parents to systematically reduce family accommodations that may unintentionally maintain a child's anxieties or rigid avoidant behaviors. Alongside this specialized framework, I provide targeted skills training and psychoeducation for parents as a vital, integrated component of the treatment plan.

Together, we can equip both you and your child with the psychological tools needed to foster lasting emotional resilience, flexibility, and long-term well-being.
