Inspired by the spirit of the holidays, a former client has recently contacted me, expressing gratitude for the work we have done together. It's been at least five years since we last met and it's always nice to hear from someone with whom I have journeyed. Therapy is a personal journey, a journey towards personal growth. In that sense, the therapist is like a tour guide, tours with you and highlights significant places and turns along the way. But the journey is yours. It's length vary. When we walk through the passages of bad memories, it is sometimes difficult to see why some people claim that time heals? In fact, in is not time that heals, but the memory. We tend to forget, which makes it easier to forgive. Still, it isn't always easy to forget even with the help of time and especially when self-forgiveness is involved. This journey holds more than forgiveness and recovery. Its primary purpose is personal growth and the discovery of your authentic self. In spite of the tour guide's effort to highlight significant sites, it is up to you to use the tools provided in therapy and turn the sites into insights. This process will broaden your perspective and awareness and will take you closer to a state of wholeness.
